SSILC Employment Services is funded by CanSask Career & Employment Services, and provides pre-employment services to people with disabilities.  We offer one-to-one services as well as group work. 

Examples of disability may be but are not limited to:
Arthritis                                       Depression/anxiety
Learning disabilities                    Alcoholism/addictions
ADD/ADHD                                   FASD
Fibromyalgia                                Severe allergies
Physical disabilities                      Back injuries, chronic Pain
Vision loss                                   Hearing loss

Courses offered:

Life Skills Class
Learn problem-solving, inter-personal & communication skills. Learn & practice new positive behaviors to succeed in life and work. Increase your self-esteem, build independence and learn to live and manage a more stable daily life.

Business of Living Class
Learn practical skills about how and where to access housing, health care, food security, and budgeting/money management supports. (I.E.:  How to get photo I.D.) 

Volunteer Training Class
Learn the skills needed to be a volunteer, including inter-personal and communication skills for the workplace.  Develop self-advocacy skills.  This course includes opportunities for volunteer experiences.

Access to Recovery Addictions  
Learn about tools and resources that help you to make positive changes and how your choices affect your life.  This is a harm reduction model.

“Getting Started” Women’s Circle
Gain self-esteem. Identify and remove the barriers that are keeping you from moving forward.  Build stability and independence in your life. 

Self-Awareness Class
Learn to use the Colors Spectrum assessment tool to increase understanding about yourself and others.

Self-Management Class
Learn how to identify your goals, make plans, and take action using Choice Theory.

Essential Skills Class
Learn communication, numeracy, reading and writing and skills for the workplace, focusing on work place documents.

Resume Writing Class
Learn how to put your best foot forward with employers by creating a resume that highlights your skills and experience.

Through working with your Pre-Employment counselor, you will:

  • Learn what employers want
  • Learn how to get and keep a job
  • Develop skills for the workplace
  • Learn about impacts of disability, work place accommodations, as well as how and when to self-identify
  • Develop self-esteem
  • Learn how to develop positive support circles
  • Learn how to make positive life-style choices
  • Develop communication skills including anger management
  • Develop budgeting and money management skills
  • Develop problem solving skills
  • Develop time management skills
  • Learn how to increase stability and independence in your life
  • Learn how and where to access supports for housing, childcare, food security, personal safety, disability supports and accommodation

Basic Computer Skills Tutoring:
Your tutor will provide you with the opportunities to:

  • Determine your level of skill,  set goals, develop the approach that works best for you including accommodations and supports
  • Learn basic computer skills: how to do an internet job search, set up an e-mail account, how to use typing tutorials.
