UN Day 2011

On December 1st, 2011, SSILC and our community partners, Service Canada, Sask. Human Rights Commission, City of Regina, Sask Abilities, Neil Squire Society, Sask. Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services, and Tetra Society hosted our annual celebration of the United Nations International Day for Persons with Disabilities.

The event was attended by more than 70 community members, and included a workshop, facilitated by Heather Monus from Sask. Human Rights Commission, and featuring SSILC’s “Listen to Dis” Performing Arts Collective.  “Listen to Dis” performed scenarios that highlighted common misunderstandings between people with and without disabilities, and the audience was asked to debrief and make suggestions that might improve communication.

Thank you to the City of Regina for providing refreshments, Sask. Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services for providing ASL Interpretation, and to the committee members who worked together to make this event a success!
